We spend 1/3 of our lives living defenseless with the enemy known as dust mites. Dust mites are in Mattresses, and feed off of the flakes shedding from the human skin.

You have done anything in order to get a good night sleep but for some reason nothing seems to be helping you out! That's because most Americans are sleeping through their nights unaware of the tiny creatures that are living in their bed.

Some of the leading Dust Mite symptoms are:

  • Irritated eyes
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Runny nose
  • Itchy skin
  • Sneezing
  • Sinusitis
  • Ear infection
  • Coughing
  • And More...

.

Some interesting (scary?) facts about Dust Mites;

• We shed 10,000 million scales of bacteria laden skin each day, most end up in our mattresses.

Dust mites produce 200 times it’s body weight in excrement during their normal life span..

• Dust mites feast for up to 170 days on our shed skin.

• Dust mites spread rapidly. A female dust mite lays 300 eggs.

• They can live without food for up to a year.

  • The average life cycle for a male house dust mite is 10 to 19 days.
  • A mated female house dust mite can live for 70 days, laying 60 to 100 eggs .
  • In a 10 week life span, a house dust mite will produce approximately 2000 faecal particles and an even larger number of partially digested enzyme-infested dust particles
  • A dust mites staple diet is dead skin flakes (human & pet).
  • A person sheds about 1.5 grams of skin cells and flakes every day .
  • 1.5 grams of skin is enough to feed ~1 million house dust mites.
  • Dust mites are unaffected by bleach or soaps.
  • Even in dry climates, house dust mites survive and reproduce easily in bedding (especially in pillows) because of the humidity generated by the human body during several hours of breathing and perspiring.
  • Allergens produced by house dust mites are among the most common triggers of asthma.
  • Allergies affect as many as 50 million people in the U.S.A.
  • Dust mite allergies are itchiness, sneezing, inflamed or infected eczema, watering eyes, runny nose, hay fever, conjunctivitis, and clogging in the lungs.
  • Exposure to high levels of dust mite allergens in young children can increase the chances of asthma.
  • The top part of mattresses containing fibrous material is a favorite place for dust mites during warm and humid times.
  • The deeper parts of mattresses may provide protected areas for the dust mites during unfavorable conditions (and sanctuary from even the most powerful vacuuming).
  • Clothing is used by dust mites as a means of transportation from room to room or even from house to house.
  • Dust mites can live in carpets, soft furnishings, soft toys, cushions and throws.
  • Cleaning mattresses is important since the average mattress will double its weight in 10 years as a result of being filled with dead dust mites and their excrement!
