  Questions &  Answers.

Exactly how dangerous are indoor allergens?

A:  Without regularly scheduled allergen cleaning, you are inviting, into your living environment, a host of permanent medical problems, including respiratory problems such as asthma and bronchitis as well as other medical problems including: Eczema, dermatitis, perennial rhinitis, sinusitis, and more. Dust mites are the main trigger to stimute asthma, and asthma is rapidly increasing in the United States. They are microscopic, but they can be VERY hazardous to your heath. Everyday symptoms include: itchy skin (little bumps and rashes), stuffed up nasal cavities, sneezing, puffy eyes, wheezing, tight chest, head or sinus ache, raspy voice, coughing, lethargy, mental fatigue, and even depression!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MATTRESS CLEANING

Q: What are the health benefits of a clean mattress?

A: Everything from a better night's sleep to disease prevention!

Q: How often should a mattress be cleaned?

A. Dust mites thrive on the skin flakes we shed every night. The recommended service interval is once every year unless you suffer from severe allergies then more often.

Q: Why can't I just vacuum my own mattress?

A. Traditional household vacuums do not have the power to remove the highly resilient dust mites and other harmful debris that are deeply embedded in the mattress. And, they do not utilize the all important sanitizing properties of the UCV germicidal lamp and dry vapor steam, is the key to effective sanitizing.

Q: Is there a dust mite season, as with pollen or molds?
Are the summer months tougher on people with dust mite allergies because of the higher humidity?

A. The dust mite season is actually quite erratic. It may be higher in the summer in many climates because of the warmth and higher humidity. But people who are sensitive to dust mites often will have symptoms all year-round. And in the winter time, when people spend more time indoors and keep windows and doors closed, dust mite particles are often still in the house, and they still can be a problem.

Q: Can exposure to dust mites actually cause the sensitivity, or are you just born allergic to dust mites?

A. The main area of concern is in very young children growing up in environments where there's high dust mite exposure — or other types of allergen exposure. There is some evidence that if an infant or a young child grows up where there's a high exposure to sensitizing substances, he or she will be more likely to develop allergy problems, asthma or both.

Q: Specifically, what kinds of indoor allergens are in my bed and in my home?

A: You could be living with, and sleeping with dangerous dust mite feces, fungi, bacteria, viruses, decaying skin, pet dander, spores, mold, and more without even knowing it! These harmful organisms are living in your air, mattress, pillows, mattress top, sheets, furniture, carpet, and more!

Q: How bad can the infestation of dust mites be?

A: Keep in mind, there could also be dangerous fungi, bacteria, pet dander, mold, and more!  After 10 years, the weight of the average mattress doubles due to dust mite infestation!!!  This includes dead and decaying bodies, and feces.

Q: Where do dust mites, and other harmful allergens live?

A: Dust mites are the most prevalent in mattresses, but they are still thriving in curtains, pillows, blankets, carpet, clothing, toys, furniture, and more!  We will give you advice on how to eliminate all of these threats.

Q: Can I just clean my bed myself?

A: It is impossible to remove all microscopic dust mites without specialized equipment. In fact, cleaning by a non-professional can actually bring your allergens out from where they were hiding and cause even more pollution.

We use state of the art, high-tech equipment to do our cleaning.

The safest way is to have your mattresses cleaned by professionals, such as The Bed Med.

You can take helpful measures to reduce dust mites between cleanings, and we will gladly explain them to you.

Q: Will my sheets and pillow case protect me from dust mites and other dangers?

A: No!! Sheets protect you just as much as laying on a fish net at the beach would protect you from sand. Dust mites come through the sheets. They are microscopic, so they can easily fit through the tiniest of holes in your sheets and pillow cases.

Q: Can't I just buy special allergy free items to help with dust mites, and indoor allergens?

A: First of all, you will also need to purchase special sheets, pillow cases, vacuums, filters, beds, ect...which will cost a lot of money (Hundreds). These items combined will not give you the cleanliness of one of our cleanings.

The problem is in the tiny particles from the dust mites that are extremely light-weight and the act of simply "fluffing" a pillow, or rolling over at night while sleeping (this occurs on average 50-60 times per night) cause the particles to become airborne and remain airborne for up to 2 hours while circulating throughout a home and settling on ALL furnishings. This negates the usefulness of dust mite-proof mattress covers and bedding.

Also, dust mites and other dangers lurk in your carpet, curtains, furniture, and many other places. In fact, protective sheets, and pillow cases have been proven ineffective by leading scientists, as reported in the New England Journal of Medicine!

Q: Why did I not know about the dangers of indoor allergens, and dust mites, or that I could get my mattress sanitized?

A: The most obvious answer is that you cannot actually see the dangers with the naked eye. The research of the negative effects of dust mites is fairly new. Mattress cleaning has recently become a HUGE phenomenon in Europe, and it just now is hitting the United States . There were no mattress cleaning services in Europe 12 years ago, and now there are over 4,000!
